"As splendid proof of the energy of the members of the two chapters and of the loyalty and generosity of the citizens of Dawson and vicinity, the handsome sum of $6,000, all voluntarily contributed within three days, was obtained and forwarded to Toronto," Berton wrote. In September 1914 the women raised more money for the Canadian Patriotic Fund.
The chapters also intended to canvas the town and creeks for funds to buy a machine gun. If the government did not need the gun, the money would be put in the Crippled Soldiers Fund. In October 1916, when the Yukon Infantry Company and Martha:Black left Dawson on the S.S. Casca, Dawson women formed a Martha Munger Black chapter of the order.
